SOGO Is Sick!

When something is called “the sickest way to get healthy” do you find yourself scratching your head in confusion? If you do, you probably are not the target demographic of the newest campaign to encourage youth, particularly Canadian youth, to get moving and get in shape. With the explosion of the obesity epidemic in recent years and the news today the obese people outnumber overweight people for the first time. According to the mainstream news media, the evidence of obesity is indicated when the body mass index (BMI) exceeds 30%. The newest campaign called SOGO Active tries to reach out to youth in a hip and innovative way.

SOGO Active not only encourages youth to get active but provides information to youth about activities that are available to them. In many instances the youth are not aware of ways to get active in their community. SOGO active also facilitates the connection of youth to hosts who are willing to allow their facilities to be used by individuals and teams interested in getting healthy. SOGO active also connects young people with the other resources, like equipment and coaches in an effort to help the youth get fit and stay fit. Another thing, selected SOGO participants may even get to take part in the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay!
